Description
A pair of George III demi-lune fold-over card tables circa 1790, satinwood, polychrome decorated in the manner of 'Seddon Son & Shackleton', each with a tulipwood crossbanded top and rose inter-spaced with peacock feather painted border over a crossbanded and line inlaid frieze painted with floral sprigs on four slender bell flower painted legs, the rear legs opening to support the fold-over top, 99.5cm wide, 73.5cm high, 49.5cm deep NOTE: The table tops are in the manner of 'Seddon Son & Shackleton' who specialised in fine painted furniture. The distinctive peacock border relates to the earliest documented communion of Messrs Seddon, Son & Shackleton for D Tapper at Hautenville House, St Peter Port, Guernsey, (C Gilbert 'Seddon, Son & Shackleton', Furniture History, Vol. XXXIIII, 1991, page 2
