Rare and exceptional Roseville Della Robbia 40-8" pitcher with intricate depiction of a charioteer and three horses on each side. Finished in five colors, this piece's Classical form is similar to the motifs used on Roseville's Olympic line from roughly the same time period. Artist signed either "H.E." or "K.E.," the design concept of this piece was that of Frederick Hurten Rhead. Unmarked. There are some inconspicuous glaze pops throughout the design as well as a 1/4" factory flaw to the tip of the spout. Otherwise, the piece is without damage or repairs. 7 3/4" tall by 9 1/2" wide with handle. This exact piece is shown on page 93 of Mark Bassett's book, "Understanding Roseville Pottery" and page 26 of Huxfords' guide, "The Collectors Encyclopedia of Roseville Pottery."
