85 bhp, 221 cu. in. side valve V8 engine with three-speed sliding gear synchromesh transmission, transverse leaf spring and beam axle front suspension, semi-elliptical leaf spring and live axle rear suspension, and four-wheel mechanical brakes. Wheelbase: 112"

The term "Station Wagon" was applied to these sedan-based cars as they were designed to haul both luggage and guests from the train stations to a local resort or hotel. Years later, their unique construction earned them the nickname "woodie wagons".

Station wagons from this era were all built out of wood by specialty firms that took delivery of the completed chassis and its cut-away body. Then, both the interior and required bodywork were added before shipping it back to the manufacturer for final assembly and inspection. As a result, this was a time consuming and costly procedure.

In 1936 Ford opened its station wagon assembly line at its Iron Mountain mill. This allowed Ford to fabricate and assemble at one site. Fit and finish improved as inspections could be completed immediately after the wagon left the assembly line. The popular 1936 Ford Station Wagon featured roll-up front glass windows with canvas side curtains fitted with transparent isinglass plastic windows that could be fixed in place for additional protection from the elements.

Finished in Ford's classic Washington blue, this fine example's appealing color enhances the strong, purposeful lines of the 1936 Ford. The wood body remains largely original, with very few repairs ever required. The completely restored Saddle Brown leather seats are a lovely contrast to the blue paintwork and nicely finished wood grains. A new LeBaron Bonney interior has been fitted. As a utility vehicle, it is also fitted with clean rubber floor mats and the standard removable rear seat.

The quality of the restoration is excellent, including a highly-detailed engine bay fitted with correct Ford script radiator hoses, proper clamps, and so forth. It is well-equipped, including Ford script tires mounted on original steel wheels with trim rings and deluxe wheel covers, a metal spare wheel cover, and a banjo-style accessory steering wheel. It is also equipped with a rare and desirable third bench seat. Although the early ownership history is not known with certainty, it is believed to have been purchased by a resort hotel for use as a guest shuttle.

In 1936 Ford delivered 7,044 "woodie" Station Wagons, but the inherent limitations of wood as an exterior surface has resulted in an extremely low survival rate, with the result that the Ford has become one of the most highly sought after woodies of the period.
