Throughout its long history, Buick has been synonymous with prestige, style, and good value. The Roadmaster, offered between 1936 and 1958, topped the Buick model line, and was a clear expression of its owner's upward mobility. Similarly, Buick sales rose strongly in the post-war years, culminating in 1955, when the GM division climbed to an overall third place ranking behind Chevrolet and Ford.

The popular Roadmaster was completely redesigned in 1954, sharing the new C-Body platform with the Super line. Available in sedan, coupe and convertible models, the Roadmaster featured Buick's distinctive ventiports, dashing sweepspears, and Dagmar bumpers, and gained nearly ten inches of overall length. The 322 cubic inch V8 engine, introduced in 1953, evolved into a 236-horsepower powerhouse by 1955, mated to a variable-pitch Dynaflow automatic transmission that combined strong acceleration and good fuel economy. The interior featured a wide variety of premium upholstery choices, and a distinctive engine-turned dash motif extending to the upper door panels.

The 1955 Buick Roadmaster Convertible offered here was thoroughly restored during the early 1990s, and given a frame-on repaint during January of 2008. The beautiful Cherokee Red paint is polished to an outstanding finish, while the impressive brightwork and white convertible top exhibit an as-new appearance. Meanwhile, 40-spoke Kelsey-Hayes chrome wire wheels and wide whitewall tires complete the handsome Roadmaster.

The interior is trimmed in two-tone red and white leather upholstery, with red carpeting, remaining as new and complemented by excellent bright trim. The engine compartment and undercarriage are also well detailed, featuring the properly refinished 322 cubic inch V8 engine. The Roadmaster is also equipped with standard power steering and power brakes, along with power-operated windows, a power-adjustable front seat and a power-operated convertible top. The car also includes the original AM radio, a clock, and a wide whitewall spare tire on a chrome wire wheel that is properly mounted in the spare tire well.

Truly an impressive example, this 1955 Buick Roadmaster Convertible is one of just 4,793 originally produced. Few cars in history were more appropriately named than the Roadmaster, and few Roadmasters are more appealing than the one presented here.
