
842. Charlton Heston distressed kaftan from Ben-Hur. (MGM, 1959) Two-tone striped beige kaftan with gold embroidered designs at the collar and cuffs. Internal Simmons costume label is written "Mr. Charlton Heston #3 Ben-Hur". Exhibits studio distressing at the left shoulder, arm and right chest, as worn during the scene in which Heston's character, in bondage to Roman slave drivers, nearly succumbs to thirst before being given water by the Lord – an emotional and highly significant scene in the film. This kaftan was previously sold at a Butterfield & Butterfield sale of entertainment memorabilia on February 27, 1996. $4000 - $6000
