843. Charlton Heston signature kaftan and Pallium from Ben-Hur. (MGM, 1959) Charlton Heston's signature four piece costume from Ben-Hur consisting of a dark green, long-sleeved wool kaftan with ornate embroidered designs, long striped orange pallium and decorative braided cord sash with gold brooch and multi-colored, gold embroidered cummerbund used in a different scene. Internal Simmons costume label is written "C. Heston". This costume is worn during the emotionally-charged scene in which Heston's character, Judah Ben-Hur, meets Esther at the gathering to hear Jesus deliver the Sermon on the Mount. Ben-Hur doesn't realize this was the carpenter who brought him water at Nazareth many years earlier when he was a slave. With bitterness in his heart, Ben-Hur ignores the Sermon and goes on his own way, claiming he has "business with Rome." Cummerbund is from production, but not worn by Heston in this scene. Kaftan and pallium are in remarkable condition considering their age. The film won a number of Academy Awards, including Best Actor and Best Costume Design. An important piece of Hollywood history and a highly recognizable wardrobe item from one of Charlton Heston's most important films. $12000 - $15000
