889. The first real extra terrestrial handled by Profiles in History: 27.8 Pound Main Mass Meteorite. This exceptional alien rock was discovered December 16, 2004, north of Lake Havasu City, AZ, in an area called the Franconia strewnfield. Appearing purplish-brown in color, this specimen was classified by Dr. Ted Bunch of Northern Arizona University as an ordinary chondrite H 4/5. Composition: Fayalite 17.9 +/- .04, Ferrosilite 15.6, Wollastonite 1.8, Shock State 3, Weathering 2. This is the main mass of Franconia strewnfield, meaning it the largest single specimen of the field. Making it even more desirable is that this is an "oriented" meteorite, with flow lines, indicating it was stable in its flight through the atmosphere with one side facing the airstream. There are few active strewnfields on Earth, and to have the main mass of any particular field is an extremely rare opportunity. Comes with a newspaper article featuring the meterorite. $25000 - $35000
