893. Hero rocket plane miniature from X-15. (MGM, 1961) This spectacular hero miniature was made for the film's thrilling visual effects sequences, and is constructed of styrene and resin with a concealed compartment in the lower fuselage which contained wiring to illuminate the model, most likely the rear rocket exhaust nozzle and perhaps the cockpit. The rocket features U.S. Air Force insignia, and is mounted on a custom display base. The rocket has been professionally restored to its original production specifications, as the nosecone, an elevator and the tip of one of the wings had suffered some damage in the years since the film was completed. An impressive visual effects miniature from this film, which starred Charles Bronson and Mary Tyler Moore with James Stewart narrating. Measures approx. 42 in. tall. $2000 - $3000
