899. Anne Rice manuscript diary for Feast of All Saints including reaction to the success of her first book, Interview With The Vampire. Superb autograph manuscript diary, signed twice, "Anne Rice", from "Paris, April 15, 1977". Red hardcover, Octavo, 106 pages, over 13,000 words in ink.
Written during her first trip to Europe following the success of her first book, Interview with the Vampire. She chronicles her innermost thoughts, including her reactions to the success of Interview, anger at it being over-edited, frustration with Knopf, disappointment with the cover design, her pride in seeing paperback sales of Interview exceed one million copies, concerns about the screenplay for a future film, etc.
She also writes of her earliest impressions of becoming rich, disappointment with a visit to Victor Hugo's house in Paris and its "museum-like" atmosphere, amazement of the cathedral architecture at Chartres and Notre Dame,, memories of a gray day at the Tower of London, and promises she made herself as she cried at Charles Dickens' grave.
There are scenic observations and plot workings for her second novel and a casual reminder to herself that Feast of All Saints would make a good title, "worth saving for a book".
Absolutely incredible content. The only significant Anne Rice manuscript ever offered for sale. Fine condition. Housed in a full red morocco slipcase. $15000 - $20000
