Description: Two pages on 4-page conjugate lettersheet. 12x8,Significant letter from Frederick, Duke of York and Albany (1763-1827), second son of King George III, commander in chief of the Army, and the subject of the rhyme 'The Grand Old Duke of York.' Frederick writes to Lt. Col. the Rt. Hon. the Earl of Darnley (John Bligh) commanding the Kentish Troop of Yeomanry Cavalry, thanking him and congratulating him on the "zeal & alacrity" he and his troops showed in helping suppress the mutiny on the British ships at Nore. Bligh seems today best remembered for his accomplishments as an amateur cricketer. Accompanied by a manuscript copy of this letter and of Darnley's reply of July 2, 1797 - it is split in two pieces horizontally.
