Description: Printed document accomplished in ink, signed Exmouth. 11½x7½.Under the printed name of Sir Edward Pellew, Bart, Vice Admiral of the Red, and Commander in Chief of His Majesty's Ships and Vessels employed in the Mediterranean. Lieut. A. Mercadell, at the time commaning The Prince Bullock Ship, is appointed Lieutenant commanding the HMS Caledonia, the previous commander, "Lieut. A. Elphinstone of His Majesty's Ship Caledonia being Superseded." Pellew long and accomplished service in the British Navy was to lead to his appearance in a number of novels in the 20th century, inclding C.S. Forester's "Hornblower and the Hotspur" and "Mr. Midshipman Hornblower."
