Title: Virginia Marylandia et Carolina in America Septentrionali Britannorum industria exclutae
Author: Homann, Johann Baptiste
Description: Copper-engraved map, hand-colored; with a large uncolored allegorical cartouche depicting British trade with the natives and the wealth and largesse of America. 57.8x48.5 cm. (22¾x19").Decorative map of the Southeast, with wonderful cartouche, intended to promote German emigration to America. Germantown / Teutsche Statt is placed at the headwaters of the Rappahanock. The cartouche depicts what appears to be a tobacco-drying house in the background. There is good detail for the period with a number of early counties shown in the Carolinas and Indian Tribes and place names, rivers, bays, coastal soundings, early settlements and other details named. New Jersey is divided into East and West New Jersey and Philadelphia is shown incorrectly at a fork of the Schuykill and "West New Jersey River". "Florida pars" is south of Pennsylvania, west of Virginia and extends to New Jersey.
