TWO PRINTS BY DALE NICHOLS (Nebraska/Illinois, 1904-1995).
Handcolored woodblocks on paper, both signed in pencil and dated 1969. Each in the manner of a European illuminated manuscript, but incorporating Mayan texts and iconography. Identically framed, 15 1/4"h. 13"w. and 9 1/2"h. 13"w. Dale Nichols (Nebraska/Illinois, 1904-1995) is principally known for his regionalist Midwestern farm paintings. However, he spent time in Guatemala in the 1960s and utilized local subjects in experimental works. Both of the present prints were purchased directly from Nichols in Guatemala in 1969. Condition reportCondition: Both with light, even toning. Not yet removed from the frame. Descriptions provided in both printed and on-line catalogue formats do not include condition reports.
