Mali, Bamana. This female 'tjiwara' antelope headdress with child has tall spirally carved horns and an incised head with a pierced nose. The young at the back is of identical form to the mother. The base shows four holes for attachement. Shiny smoked brown-black patina, few remnants of white pigmentation. Wood, H. ca. 89 cm. Abrasions. Provenance: Acquired 1968 from L. Bretschneider, Munich.
