Mali, Bamana. Female 'tjiwara' antelope headdress, with male and female child. All three antelopes have spirally carved horns, heads with geometric pattern. The group is fixed on a basketwork with cords. Bright wood, dark patinated, shiny patina. H. ca. 77 cm. Splice at horn of mother antelope, reparation at the torso of the female child, abrasions. Provenance: Acquired 1977 from Stella Pitt-Rivers, London. This piece, an antelope carrying twins, seems to be an unique and absolutely rare one.
