Mali, Bamana. Antelope headdress 'tjiwara'. Slightly bend spirally carved horns and incides head with two small horns at the forehead, tall ears and an open mouth with the tongue stretched. The incised body has a slightly bend back, the head is attached to the neck with metal braces, the neck on some parts repaired, shiny brown patina with remains of red paint. Bright wood, with brown old patina. H. ca. 29.5 cm, L. ca. 54 cm. Abrasions, wear and tear. Provenance: Acquired 1974 at the Kunst- und AntiquitŠtenmesse, Munich from Kegel & Konietzko, Hamburg. Old collection label.
