Liberia, Dan mask. A vertical ridge runs from the forehead to the nose, a whitened incised band goes over the slit eyes, the mouth is open and has four metal teeth. Around the mouth sacrification pattern with remains of white pigmentation. The coiffure, a roll of cowries mounted on textile. This very old mask has brown to black partly glossy patina. Pierced border. H. ca. 30 cm. Abrasions, minimal insect bites. Provenance: Acquired 1969 from L. Bretschneider, Munich, exhibited at Munich fair at Arcopalais, original certification of Bretschneider is available.
