Liberia, Dan. A very fine, cubistic-like mask showing the typical simplification of form of the Kaogle mask typ, with triangular shapes for the pierced eyes, nose and cheeks. So called chimpanzee-mask. In the opened mouth is one metal tooth left. Pierced border, beyond the chin remnant of skin. Wood, glossy brown/black and encrusted patina, H. ca. 25 cm. Abrasions, tiny crack at the underjaw. Provenance: Acquired 1985 from L. Bretschneider, Munich.
