Membership certificate for a John McAllister as a life member of the corporation of the "House of Refuge" dated January 1, 1853. Document is signed by society president Biddle. Engraved masthead features man leading poor boy to building in background. Sheet measures 15.5" x 18.5" with light soiling and some edge tears, including one large one at bottom border (not effecting text).
