First Trade Edition.After the fall of France to the Nazis St. Exupery came to New York at the invitation of his American publisher, Reynal & Hitchcock and it was there that his classic illustrated story "The Little Prince" was first published - both in French and English-language editions. A few months after publication, St. Exupery rejoined his squadron to fly reconnaissance missions over the Mediterranean. His plane was lost on July 31, 1944 and his fate remained a mystery until recently, when wreckage of an aircraft found in the sea near Marseilles was proven to be from his plane. Also issued in both French & English in a limited edition signed by the author. This first French-language edition is considerably scarcer than the English translation.
