DECORATED SCHRANK.
Sonnenberg, Wayne County, Ohio, ca. 1835-1855, poplar. Two-part, with a lift-off cornice, raised-panel doors, and block feet. Interior has drawers and hooks. Retains its original red over yellow paint decoration. Minor surface losses and blemishes. 82"h. 70"w. 19 1/2"d. The present schrank is a simpler version of the two-door schrank sold at Garth's, May 4-5, 2007, lot 112. This example is distinguised by a particularly fine, and complete, set of interior hooks. Moreover, retains its original feet, which were only present on some Sonnenburg schrunken, and have not survived on many that originally had them. See Locher et al, Decorative Arts of Ohio's Sonnenberg Mennonites , pp. 64-85. Condition reportCondition: Some surface losses and scratches, and later paint splatters. Retains original turned screws to hold the two halves together. Retains its original feet. Missing one brass escutcheon.
