DECORATED TWO-PIECE WALL CUPBOARD.
Probably Pennsylvania (found in the Johnstown area), 2nd quarter-19th century, poplar. Retains the original red paint with design of swiggles and dots with coat of old varnish. Both upper and lower cases have chamfered corners. The cream painted interior has two beaded edged shelves with spoon holes. Dovetailed bracket base. Minor loss and replacements. 82"h. 561/2"w. 19 1/2"d. Condition reportCondition: Pulls are replaced, but hinges (marked Baldwin) appear original. Small section of molding mssing from where the top fits on to the base. Missing plate rail on uppermost shelf. A few minor age cracks. Two feet have cracked facing, and have later nails. For the lower right door, the lock plate has been reinforced. Glass appears original, though there was, at some point, fabric tacked to the door interiors. The cream paint on the upper inside looks original. The red decoration on the exterior appears original, with a thick varnish that has yellowed. Light, additional varnish may have been rubbed on the right and left drawers in the lower case. The central drawer facing is original with some refreshing, however the drawer sides, bottom, and back have been replaced with old parts. Minor (inactive) insect damage on secondary woods.
