SAMPLER.
Elizabeth Rohrer, probably American, dated 1846, wool and silk thread on cotton ground. Religious verse flanked by birds over large urn of flowers, smaller checkered baskets on the sides. Several Elizabeth Rohrers of the likely age are listed in the 1850 and 1860 U.S. census, two of them in Pennsylvania. Fringed edges. Some imperfections. 18"h. 19 1/2"w., in a modern frame, 20"w. 22"w.

Condition: Small areas of loss in wool. Light soiling.
