INDIANA JACQUARD COVERLET.
Samuel Graham (1805-1871), Henry or Delaware County, Indiana, Ca. 1840-1860s, red wool and natural cotton. Center seam, double weave. Spread eagle corner block used by Samuel Graham, undated. Minor imperfections. 82"l. 92"w. English born Graham was weaving in New Castle, Henry County by 1843 and by 1861 in Yorktown, Delaware County. See Anderson, American Coverlets and Their Weavers, p.163. Condition reportCondition: There is a quarter size hole near the border. Two inch loss of wool on one side, half way down. Early binding on top edge of red wool, possibly homespun. His coverlets appear not to have had side fringe. Descriptions provided in both printed and on-line catalogue formats do not include condition reports.
