PORTRAIT OF CHILDREN (AMERICAN, CA. 1840-1850).
Oil on canvas, unsigned, but attributed to Ohio, possibly Jervis F. Hanks (1799-1853). Wonderful double portrait of two siblings, the younger in a decorated chair, holding a peacock feather fan. The interior includes flame grain mahogany trim at a window overlooking an extensive mountain lake. Restoration, partial report included with lot. 33"h. 40 1/2"w., in a gilt frame, 42"h. 48"w.

Condition: Rebacked, cleaned with some touch up mainly small areas, largest to the right of the elder girl's head. Restored in 1988, partial record included with lot.
