HAND PAINTED PORTRAIT CABINET PLATE: IRIS - SIGNED

A beautifully rendered hand painted cabinet plate with center portrait of a woman amid Iris flowers. Cobalt blue and light green/grey border heavily decorated with gold and probably platinum enamels. Artist signed lower right, illegibly. Irregular ground area where original mark has been removed. Reverse also has what appears to be original mark of "Germany" and "Iris" in black script. Later added faux Royal Vienna Beehive mark to center. Measures 9 3/4". (UPDATED 8/22/08 - 10:30 am EST: to clarify assumptions. 1) the ground area may or may not have held an original mark. 2) We are not certain the beehive mark is faux, we are recommending bidders carefully review the images and decide for themselves. 3) Title changed. This plate is a beautifully executed cabinet plate of great quality.)
