Early American Painted Leather Fire Bucket,
dated 1785, central medallion shows blaze, streamer below inscribed "Vulcanus Gebat Neptuno," "J. Baker" in large letters at bottom. 12" high; 17" high with handle From the Baker family home in Hingham Massachusetts. They descended from the estate of James Loring Baker (1813 - 1886), son of John Baker (1780 - 1867).

Condition report

Crazing throughout, a few small areas of loss, some cracking to handle, overall toning and excellent condition.
