Cuzco School, St. Joseph & Angel, 18th c.,
"St. Joseph Dreaming Attended by an Angel," oil on canvas. Note the exotic birds and tropical foliage that surround the central figures. Housed in a period, carved, gold leaf frame having contemporary mat. Cuzco artists were indigenous people who gradually moved from the style of their Spanish teachers to art incorporating native imagery. SS 37" x 25.5"; DOA 48" x 36" From the estate of former US Ambassador Findley Burns, Jr. who purchased the piece from Sotheby's, NY, in 1980.
