mahogany with pine secondary, upper case with central prospect door with flame birch inlay, flanked by tambour doors opening to two drawers and three cubbyholes, lower case with three long drawers, probably coastal Massachusetts, early 19th century, 45-1/2 x 39-3/4 x 21-1/2 in. One tambour jammed (interior drawers not removed), brasses replaced, felt writing surface relined, scattered chips and losses to moldings and veneers, other minor patches, veneer repairs, scattered stains and abrasions. Provenance: Formerly property of Margaret Cushing, last owner of Cushing House before it became headquarters building for Newburyport, Massachusetts Historical Society.
