(Massachusetts, 1859-1921), portrait of the ship "Lawrence Brown", signed lower right "Chas. Torrey 1919", oil on canvas, 20 x 30 in.; original gilt and black-painted frame. Original stretcher and tacking edge, minor retouch at top right edge, abrasions upper left, craquelure, canvas loose, stretcher stamped by Boston, Massachusetts colorman; frame with abrasions. Provenance: Formerly property of Margaret Cushing, last owner of Cushing House before it became headquarters building for Newburyport, Massachusetts Historical Society. Paper label verso "Lawrence Brown, 1850, Newburyport-795 tons. G. Pierce, Master, Capt reported….mouth '62".
