rare diminutive size in old surface, line and band inlaid arms on reeded arm supports, inlaid and turned legs, maple secondary, northern New England, possibly Portsmouth area, 19th century, probably of the period, 35-1/2 x 41-1/2 x 21 in. In old surface, rear legs with later braces and repairs, formerly fitted with two medial struts, other wear and abrasions throughout, upholstery now largely removed, one rear leg replaced from the seat rail down. Provenance: Formerly property of Margaret Cushing, last owner of Cushing House before it became headquarters building for Newburyport, Massachusetts Historical Society.
