pigment on cloth, the deity seated on a lotus throne, a [patra] (alms bowl) in his left hand, flanked by two monks, a trio of lamas above him, three deities below him, verso with iron red three-character mark, mounted to brocade, with a silk cover cloth of three-part construction, 18th or 19th century, image 27 x 16-1/2 in., total measurements 51-1/2 x 33 in. Extensive wear, stains, brocade and cover cloth with fading and stains, loose stitching, top hanging rod broken. Provenance: Collection of Douglas S. Mackiernan, Vice Consul for U.S. State Department in Tihwa, China, 1940s.
