Professionally carved hardwood classic figure of a boy on his water buffalo going to the fields. He would be playing a flute but sadly, his flute is missing. The detail is incredible. Individual hairs are carved, even to the swirled hair patterns on the buffalo.
Heavy, dark hardwood has been realistically carved. The carving is very realistic showing the folds of clothing, the tongue in the buffalo’s mouth, the boy’s face, the body shape of the buffalo, the rope to the mouth and the hair and hair patterns on the buffalo. It has been carved in the round, showing all sides. Glass eyes were realistically inset in the buffalo's head. The carving rests flat on a surface.
MEASUREMENTS 8†(20.3 cm) long x 6 7/8†(17.5 cm) tall x 3 ½†(8.9 cm) wide. Weighs 1 lb 1 oz (480 g)
CONDITION The piece is missing the flute that would be in the boy’s hands. One tip of a water buffalo horn is missing and there is are small chips on a back hoof the ear. There are no wood cracks or breaks. The piece has a good entire look.
A fine sculpted carving of a classic Chinese theme. So much time and effort was made to make this work of the carver’s art.
