Author: Smedley, Agnes Description: 12 page typed manuscript, with holograph corrections in her hand.To the Congress of American Writers, New York. Strident pro-Communist analysis of events in China from 1927 to 1935. The Comintern dispatched Smedley to China in October 1934 to establish an English-language newspaper in Shanghai. In 1936, she refused to toe the Moscow line on the need for a united front between the Chinese Communists and the Nationalist government of Chiang Kai-shek.
