First Edition.Sold with 1950 facsimile reprint with ownership signature of Ralph P. Bieber on front free endpaper. Setting out from South Bend in 1849, Leeper and his party crossed the plains and entered California via the Lassen Cutoff. Kurutz notes that "Leeper provides an excellent description of Sutter's Fort and mining activities at Hangtown Creek, Kelsey's Canyon and the Trinity Diggings."
