Author: Lefort, Henri Description: Large engraving, image size approximately 25x21¼ inches, matted and mounted to slightly larger sheet which is mounted to foam-core backing. Titled "Washington" in lower margin (covered by matting).Bust of President Washington, after Gilbert Stuart. Provenance: From the estate of William Cary Sanger. This etching of George Washington was originally bought by Col. William Cary Sanger, who was the Assistant Secretary of War under Theodore Roosevelt. The etching was done in Paris in 1880 by Henri Le Fort. Lefort was the President of the French Society of Etchers, and also did a noteworthy etching of Christopher Columbus.
