"West came from England to western Canada by way of Hudson Bay, York Factory, and Lake Winnipeg, arriving at the Red River Settlement on October 14, 1820; he returned to England in September of 1823. Streeter notes that this work 'offers a good picture of life and work in the Canadian West for the period 1820-1823.'
