Author: Whitney, J[oel]-P[arker]
Description: 71 pp. Translated into French by Gustave Naquet; 2 folding maps; (4to) 9¾x6¼; Three-quarter morocco backed marbled boards; spine lettered in gilt. This is the French edition of this work published for the Universal Exposition at Paris, 1867 at which Whitney represented the Colorado Territory in its mineral exhibition. The display of Colorado Ore was awarded a Gold Medal where the display of raw materials from the nations of the world formed the central zone of the elliptically shaped building designed to make the exhibition truly an exposition universelle. Whitney's enthusiasm was unbounded by reason; he writes "We find a belt of pyritous gold veins in Colorado surpassing in richness any known in the world, to which the gold fields of California bear no comparison."
