Description: Original ink and watercolor illustration after John Webber. 10½x6¾, image (oval)is 9x6.One of the earliest student drawings from Cook's Third Voyage. Dated Aug. 1784, the same month and year as the publication of the account of Cook's third (and final) voyage. Portrait of a young man - "(A man), who resided for some time in this country, and (who) seems to have taken great pains to gain information on this subject, is persuaded, that the true Kamatschadales are a people of great antiquity, and have for many ages inhabited this peninsula; and that they are originally descended from the mongolians..."
