Description: Copper-engraved map. 17.8x14 cm. (7x5½").North and South America with California shown as an island with an indented northern coastline. There are no place names on California, simply "Californie I." This is apparently the first state of the map as delineated by McLaughlin, with Macquart's name present in the cartouche, though the impression is weak as if an attempt was made to remove it from the plate; p.329 in upper right corner.
