Author: London, Charmian Kittredge Description: 2 volumes. xiii, 405; viii, 418 + (14) ad pp. Illustrated with b/w photos. Blue cloth with titles in gilt. First UK Edition.Tipped to front pastedown in first volume is an autograph letter of 7 lines, dated November, 1921 from Charmian "To Macleod Yearsley, It makes me happy to read how well you have understood what I tried to do! Very gratefully, Charmian London. Jack London Ranch In 'The Valley of the Moon' California." Mounted to front free endpaper is a typed letter from Charmian to the same, undated, relating to the writing of the biography, including that she has sent the manuscript of "Jack London" to Mills and Boon. The letter is signed "Charmian K. London. (Mrs. Jack)". Vintage photo postcards of Jack London mounted to both sides of front blank leaf; eucalyptus leaf with ink inscription "from Jack London's Ranch" in unknown hand mounted to half title. Second volume with Jack London's autograph note of 11 lines in pencil mounted to front pastedown. The note appears to be instructions regarding correspondence with someone unnamed; Jack London's bookplate mounted to facing page; on verso a halftone photo of Jack, Charmian, and their dog "Possum". Woodbridge notes that "these two volumes contain over 250 letters, telegrams and inscriptions by Jack London to various correspondents, some complete and some excerpted. The majority are first printings...." Published the same year as the US edition. BAL notes that the text in the UK edition "varies somewhat from the American edition," notably with the inclusion "for the first time in a book" of Jack London's first story "Story of a Typhoon off the Coast of Japan."
