Title: Autograph letter from Jack London to Charmian Kittredge
Author: London, Jack Description: 17 lines, on recto of 10¾x8½ sheet of plain paper.Early letter from Jack London to his new love Charmian Kittredge, written less than a month after announcing to his wife Bessie that he was leaving her (July 14), and a bare two weeks after his final separation (July 29). Though the letter is in ink, the date is in pencil, likely in Charmian's hand, and there is another light pencil mark drawing attention to the second paragraph. The letter is unsigned, and the recipient unnamed, a stratagem employed by London to keep his relationship with Charmian secret while he was officially married to Bessie. Jack writes: "Just to say good morning, Dear, to tell you how joyful your little visit made me, and to tell you once again that I love you. And pray who are you that you should so disorder my life? – and the beautiful paradox of it is that you are really brining order to the profound disorder of my life? Dear love, my lips are pressed to the though of your lips, so tightly, oh so tightly." Heading: Place Published: Publisher: Date Published: Aug. 9, [1903] Condition reportFine condition.
