Light brown buckram lettered in red and white, cover illustration of footprints in dark brown and cream; edges untrimmed. First Edition.Inscribed by Jack London to his sister and brother-in-law on the half-title: "Dear Ida & Jack - With love and lots off (sic) it from your brother, Jack London. Oakland, Calif., April 17, 1907." The ink inscription in his bold hand covers most of the page and dates from the time London was preparing The Snark for a trip round the world with Charmian. London was close to his younger sister and this inscription reflects the affection he had for her and her husband, who later became London's secretary. With a laid-in sepia postcard of Jack and Charmian London outside their home (Wake Robin Lodge) in Glen Ellen, from Ida Byrne (her married name) to Mrs. Alice Slade in San Francisco, postmarked Oakland, January 31, 1913, noting "Have [been] sick." The date is significant because Ida was hospitalized a few days later; she died in 1914. Material inscribed to Jack London's immediate family is very rare; a desirable, personal relic from the London family. BAL 11903; Sisson & Martens, p. 33.
