Description: [8], 251, [1] pp. Frontispiece by Maynard Dixon with tissue-guard. Dark greenish-black cloth stamped in silver. Jacket. First Edition, First Printing.Rare jacketed copy of London's first book. Dustjacket art duplicates in printed black on beige paper the book's distinctive "belt-buckle" cover design. Unrestored. First printing of London's first book. Identifiable by collation (per BAL) or by two more obvious issue points which have recently been identified: first issue has tipped-in frontispiece, later issues with frontispiece sewn in; first issue has comma after the year (1900) on copyright page, later issues have punctuation corrected with a period. First printing was only 2028 copies. BAL 11869; Sisson & Martens, p. 1.

Condition report

Edges of rear cover slightly mottled; some spotting and smudges to endpapers, else about fine with faintest wear at corners to silver-printed cover design; original unrestored jacket is edgeworn; front panel is separated from the rest; spine panel darkened, still complete and good.
