First Edition, First Printing.A very fine first printing of London's first book with London's autograph on Paul Lemperly's contemporary copper engraved bookplate. Paul Lemperley (1858-1939) innovated a practice of sending his specially designed bookplates to authors with a written request for an autograph. The bookplate reads "This Volume, For Insertion In Which The Author Has Been Pleased To Write His Name, Is The Property Of Paul Lemperly." Blank space in the center has Jack London's bold autograph. The bookplate, engraved by Edwin Davis French, is signed "ED French, 1900" in the plate. First printing was only 2028 copies. BAL 11869; Sisson & Martens, p. 1.
