Decorative blue-gray vertically-ribbed cloth lettered in white on front cover, in gilt on spine, cover illustration in black and white. In custom red cloth chemise and slipcase. First UK Edition.Inscribed and signed by Jack London on front free endpaper: "Dear Mr. & Mrs. Jones:- In grateful remembrance of the hospitality & kindness you showed Mrs. London & me – & in more grateful remembrance of yourselves. We certainly had a great time up there with you & enjoyed ourselves immensely. Sincerely yours, Jack London. Oakland, Calif. March 18, 1907." The first American edition was published in October, 1906. Heading: Place Published: London Publisher: Methuen Date Published: [1907] Condition reportFront board dampstained and somewhat warped; covers generally darkened; bumps to corners; dampstain results in slight rippling to front free endpaper, front blank, half-title, and frontispiece, though no discoloration; short tear at top of title page; light soiling to title page and some text pages. Inscription is quite presentable but book overall good only.
