George Washington (1732-1799) ADS being a membership certificate for Henry D. Purcell in the SOCIETY OF CINCINNATI dated October 31st 1785. Parchment certificate is signed by George Washington as president of the society and Henry Knox as secretary of the society. Certificate features elaborate allegorical engraved scenes by Jean-Jacques Andre Le Veau. Henry D. Purcell served as a lieutenant in the 2nd Pennsylvania Regiment during the Revolutionary War and chronologically was the 52nd member of the Pennsylvania division of the Society of Cincinnati. The document measures 15 ½" x 20 ½" and has been archival framed with an image of Washington. Signatures exhibit some slight fading as is usually encountered with engraving and printing extremely strong. Shipping: $42.00 plus insurance.
