Painted Continental Cassone, probably Italian. Painted panel scenes include nobles riding on horseback in center panel and fleur de lis designs in side panels. Raised gilt tracery on top with a center emblem of a lion. Early interior lock, carved paw front feet. Evidence of hand wrought nails and construction consistent with late 17th century. Condition - touch up painting to gilt on molding of panels, old varnish. Rear feet losses, one rear foot missing. Insect damage to bottom and back panels. Front paw feet regilt, possibly of later date. 23" H x 68 5/8" W x 23 1/2 D.
