WADE & BURNHAM'S VIENNA BURNER ON A GLASS, BRASS AND MARBLE STAND LAMP, kerosene period, colorless pressed glass Bullseye and Fleur-de-lis font fitted with a standard #1 threaded brass fine line collar, finely tooled brass stem and a marble base. The burner also has a standard #1 threaded base and is marked on the thumbwheel "WADE & BURNHAM'S / PATENT / APRIL 6 1858". In addition, this burner is fitted with an air director stamped "R. S. MERRILL'S / PATENT / JUNE 14. 1859", most commonly seen on the Jones burner. However, in the application drawing for patent number 24,397, R. S. Merrill models his air director atop a Wade & Burnham's Vienna burner. Mr. Leflet has noted the deflector edge has been rolled over or folded to produce a tighter fit in the horizontal raised groove of the interior of the chimney band. This example is fitted with a rare early chimney, 1857-1865.9 1/4" h, 4" sq base.
Ex-coll: Herbert A. Leflet, Jr.. Condition reportUndamaged, normal roughness to marble base and chimney base
