Description

Artie Shaw owned and played Conn alto saxophone 6m VIII; serial # 304455; Elkhardt Indiana, circa 1941; with rolled-edge tone holes; within a wood shell case, with Vibrator mouthpiece, , est:$3000/5000. Note: We are informed that this saxophone 'plays beautifully' and is 'possessive of a bigger sound than most similar Conn saxophones'. For a biographical note on Artie Shaw, see lot 1025. Provenance: Tangible Property from the Estate of Artie Shaw. This lot is accompanied by a certificate indicating that the present work belonged to Artie Shaw and is being consigned directly by the Estate of Artie Shaw.

Condition

Re-lacquered. Engraving worn from buffing and obscured. A few small dings on neck. Leak-light inspection and play testing suggest that lower stack keys need attention for proper pad seating. We recommend viewing this lot in person or sending an agent to do so. This and all lots are sold AS-IS and not subject to return.
